For contractors
Nella for IT contractors
The day rate is good. But what has the company actually got — today, not next January?

How does Nella help contractors?
Nella connects read-only to your limited company’s accounting software and answers questions about the company’s own figures — how much cash it holds, how much profit it has made this year, what has been drawn as salary and dividends, where the director’s loan account stands, and when corporation tax and VAT fall due. It reports the company position from the ledger, which is the figure most contractors actually need between one year end and the next.
What makes the numbers hard here.
The balance is not yours
A healthy company account already owes corporation tax, VAT and often PAYE. The drawable figure and the bank figure are rarely the same.
Gaps between contracts
A week off between engagements and an invoice settled late look identical in the bank. One is a break; the other is a debtor problem.
Dividends need profit, not cash
Dividends are paid from retained profit, and whether that profit exists is a ledger question rather than a bank question.
One person, several deadlines
Corporation tax, VAT quarters, confirmation statement, accounts and payroll all run on separate clocks for a company of one.
Questions you can ask Nella
These are asked in plain English, and answered from your own figures.
- How much cash does the company have right now?
- How much profit has the company made this financial year?
- What have I taken in salary and dividends so far this year?
- Where does my director’s loan account stand?
- When is my next VAT return due, and what period does it cover?
- How much of this year’s invoicing came from a single client?
Nella provides financial information and education, not accounting or tax advice. Nella shows you the numbers; a qualified accountant at AccTek advises you on them. When a question needs professional judgement, Nella points you to the team.
What Nella watches between your questions
- Company cash and how long it lasts at the current rate
- Profit and how it has moved through the year
- Money owed to the company, and how overdue it is
- Corporation tax and VAT dates, tracked ahead of the deadline
- Anomalies — duplicate payments or unusual spend, flagged for a second look
Alerts between questions are part of Nella Paid.
What Nella cannot do
Nella connects read-only. It cannot create, edit or delete anything in your books, reconcile the bank, file a return with HMRC or Companies House, or move money. It reports what your accounting software already holds.
Nella reports on the company whose books it is connected to. It does not calculate your personal income tax or take-home pay, does not assess your IR35 or off-payroll status, and does not see personal accounts. Those are questions for a qualified accountant; Nella shows the company figures the answer would be built from.
Nella connects to Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent. How deeply it can read varies by platform — the supported-platform table sets out what is read on each. See how your data is handled.
