How does Nella help limited company directors?

Nella connects read-only to your company’s accounting software and answers plain-English questions about your own figures — how much cash you have and how long it lasts, what you owe and are owed, how profit and margin have moved, and when your next filing and payment dates fall. It reports what your books say between one set of statutory accounts and the next, so you are not waiting until the year is closed to find out how the year went.

The pressure

What makes the numbers hard here.

The reporting gap

Statutory accounts arrive months after the year end. By the time they land, the decisions they would have informed have already been made.

Money in two places

Company profit and personal income are connected through salary, dividends and the director’s loan account, and it is rarely obvious how the two currently sit.

Dates that arrive together

Corporation tax, VAT quarters, the confirmation statement and accounts filing each run on their own clock, and they do not warn you in advance.

Nobody owns the numbers

Between the bookkeeper and the year-end accountant, no one is looking weekly at staff cost, customer debt or supplier drift — so nobody spots the change until it is large.

Questions you can ask Nella

These are asked in plain English, and answered from your own figures.

  • How much cash will the company have at the end of next month?
  • What is my director’s loan account balance right now?
  • How much profit has the company made so far this year?
  • When is my next corporation tax payment due, and for which period?
  • What is our payroll costing us each month, and how has it changed?
  • How has our gross margin moved over the last six months?

Nella provides financial information and education, not accounting or tax advice. Nella shows you the numbers; a qualified accountant at AccTek advises you on them. When a question needs professional judgement, Nella points you to the team.

What Nella watches between your questions

  • Cash and runway, calculated from the ledger, updated as your books are
  • Your Nella Score across five dimensions of financial health
  • Filing and payment dates, tracked ahead rather than announced late
  • Anomalies — duplicate payments, unusual spend, a supplier bill that doubled
  • The bank feed itself: Nella tells you when it stops updating

Alerts between questions are part of Nella Paid.

What Nella cannot do

Nella connects read-only. It cannot create, edit or delete anything in your books, reconcile the bank, file a return with HMRC or Companies House, or move money. It reports what your accounting software already holds.

Nella reports on the company whose books it is connected to. It does not see personal accounts, other companies, or anything outside the ledger you connect.

Nella connects to Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent. How deeply it can read varies by platform — the supported-platform table sets out what is read on each. See how your data is handled.
