How does Nella work with Sage?

Nella connects to Sage in read-only mode through Sage’s own secure sign-in, then answers plain-English questions about your live figures — cashflow and runway, profit and margin, and how your figures have moved month by month. It reads your Sage data and cannot create, edit or delete anything in your books.

  • Bank reconciliation status, so unreconciled items are visible rather than silent
  • Month-by-month trends, so you can see what changed and when

Nella’s Sage connection covers reporting-level figures: profit and loss, balance sheet, reconciliation status and monthly trends. It does not currently read down to individual ledger accounts, journals or the full chart of accounts — that deeper level is available on Xero and QuickBooks today and is on the roadmap for Sage. Outstanding invoices and bills are also not shown for Sage yet — Nella states that plainly rather than implying nothing is owed. Nella tells you when something cannot be assessed rather than leaving you to assume there is nothing to see.

You are sent to Sage’s own secure sign-in. Nella never sees or stores your Sage password.

Choose the business to connect and approve read-only access. Nella does not request permission to write.

What Nella cannot do in Sage

The connection is read-only by design, so there is a fixed list of things Nella cannot do in Sage — not as a setting you could change, but because the permission is never requested.

  • Create, edit, void or delete invoices, bills, credit notes or journals
  • Reconcile bank transactions or change how anything is coded
  • File a VAT return, or submit anything to HMRC or Companies House
  • Move money, pay a supplier or set up a payment
  • Change your chart of accounts, settings or user permissions

FAQ

Questions about Sage and Nella

Does Nella need write access to my Sage account?
No. Nella requests read-only access and nothing else. The permission to create, edit or delete anything in Sage is never asked for, so it cannot be granted by accident.
What can Nella read from Sage?
Profit and loss, balance sheet position, bank reconciliation status and month-by-month trends. Outstanding invoices and bills are not shown for Sage yet, and Nella says so rather than implying nothing is owed. It does not read individual ledger accounts, journals or the full chart of accounts on Sage.
Is the Sage integration as deep as the Xero one?
Not yet. Reporting-level figures are the same, but the account-level detail available on Xero and QuickBooks — chart of accounts, trial balance and transaction-level lines — is not yet read on Sage. It is on the roadmap and is not current capability.
How do I disconnect Nella from Sage?
Revoke access from Sage’s own connected apps settings, exactly as you would for any other application. Nella loses access immediately, and you can ask for your data to be deleted at the same time.
Is my Sage data used to train AI models?
No. Your figures are never used to train AI models. They are used to answer your questions and build your insight pack, and nothing else.
Can Nella tell me what to do about my numbers?
No. Nella provides financial information and education, not accounting or tax advice. Nella shows you the numbers; a qualified accountant at AccTek advises you on them, and Nella points you to the team when a question needs professional judgement.
